Stay safe when posting and sharing
Alerts save lives, but a careless post can put a missing person or their family in danger. Please read before you share.
🔒 Protect personal information
- Share only what helps people recognise the person: name, recent photo, age, last-seen town and date.
- Never post home addresses, ID numbers, school names, medical details or the family's private phone numbers.
- Use one contact point — the police case line or a single family spokesperson — not many personal numbers.
- Get permission from the family or guardian before posting about anyone, especially a child.
- When the person is found, mark the case as located and ask others to delete shared copies.
✅ Verify before you share
- Check the report comes from family, police or a trusted NGO — ask for a police case number when possible.
- Confirm the photo and details match, and look at the date: old alerts are often re-shared as new.
- Be wary of anyone asking for money, rewards in advance, or bank details to 'find' the person.
- Send sightings to the official contact, not in public comments, and never confront anyone yourself.
- If something feels wrong, don't forward it — report the post to iUBUNTU so it can be checked.
In an emergency, contact local police first. iUBUNTU helps spread the word but does not replace the authorities.
